For me, training courses have to be engaging. They have to appeal to those who learn by watching, those who learn by listening and those who learn by doing.
Put me in a training room and read a Powerpoint presentation to me and I’ll be nodding off/planning my shopping list/twitching to get my phone out and other such things. Put me in a training room and take me on a journey by making me do things, challenging my thinking and letting me ask questions and I’ll be hanging around afterwards to find out more.
DigitalJen training is all about learning and doing. Whether it’s learning to use online tools such as Canva, honing your social media content or looking at ethical decision making, we’ll always look at the ‘why’ as well as the ‘how’.
Thank you Jenny for today’s Canva Kitchen Table workshop. Love the concept, love the feel and I came away knowing that Canva CAN and WILL do what I need it to do for my business! In a small, friendly group, all our questions are answered and demonstrated. Jenny is a fantastic teacher.
Kitchen Table Training
I run training courses for up to 4 people per session from my kitchen table in St Albans. These are very informal and involve tea (or coffee) in mugs, cake and lots of hands-on opportunities to try things out. Morning courses run from 9.30am until 11.30(ish) and afternoon sessions run from 1pm until 3pm. Since starting the courses, we’ve found that all sorts of collaborations have been formed and ideas generated from chatting about how different businesses work as we learn. You can book online here
Telling Your Story
This course is a bit different to those listed below – this one gives you the opportunity to tap into Jen’s experience (and contacts) when it comes to telling your business story online. I’ve developed this session based on feedback from other courses where people have said they would love to come and talk about getting their message ‘out there’. This session will look at the mix of story telling tools out there (traditional marketing techniques, soical media, imagery, blogging etc) and what else might be available to you to engage and retain your customers. Having been blogging for nearly 8 years, worked in a variety of sectors and passed her Diploma in Strategic Sales with Key Account Management with Distinction, Jen has plenty of ideas, tricks and tips to share that can be applied to your business
This is course is £60 per session/person as you get more access to Jen’s list of useful people and contacts. It runs a limited number of times a year
Canva
Canva is a brilliant tool for creating your own imagery for use on your website and social media.
We’ll be looking at why Canva is such a great tool, how to use it, customising your own images and whether ‘Canva for Business’ is worth the investment for you.
You’ll need to bring your laptop and ideally have some images you’d like to play with stored on it.
Courses are £40 per session/person and you can book on them here
Facebook for Business
This course is for small business owners who know that they need to do more on Facebook but aren’t quite sure how to go about it.
After finding out what sort of relationship you have with Facebook, I’ll make sure that we cover what you want to know and make sure that you’re confident with the terminology Facebook are currently using, what sort of things you can post, when you can post them and how you can ‘measure’ the success of your posts. Depending on your needs, we can look at posts, pages, profiles, groups, insights, notifications, messaging, sharing the page admin, to boost or not to boost, adverts, targetting and campaigns.
We’ll also cover a bit about the business ethics involved with using Facebook, choosing images and how your personal profile on Facebook can have an effect on your brand.
Courses are £40 per session/person
Social Media
This course will cover the main social media platforms that we are seeing businesses use at the moment to open the discussions about what could be the best to use for your business. We will look at the advantages and disadvantages of each one and think about their role in how you tell the story of your business and what you do.
In addition, we will look at the amount of time and/or money that you can invest in social media and how you make sure that you get the return on your investment that you need.
As with the Facebook course, we’ll also look at the business ethics involved around social media and how what you do online can affect your brand.
Courses are £40 per session/person
Mastering MailChimp
MailChimp is a brilliant way of keeping in touch with your clients – or those who have shown interest in your business. Whether you want to send out news, offers or something else, you can create emails to engage and increase bookings and sales. This course looks at the practicalities of creating those emails, managing your contact lists and working out what happened when your email reached your client’s inbox.
Ethics, data protection and the fine line between getting your message out there vs annoying people will also be included.
Courses are £40 per session/person
Brilliant Blogging
Jen has written thousands of blog posts over the last 9 years on all sorts of subjects! This course covers the principles and logistics of blogging for business, integrating it into your marketing strategy, getting your blog out ‘there’ (and where ‘there’ even is…), curating content and making it work for your business.
Courses are £40 per session/person
Social Media for Parents
As well as being a mum of two, Jen has also been a Guide leader for the last 24 years. She’s volunteered with young people whilst watching the internet and social media evolve around them and observed how difficult it is to both be a child and a parent in the digital age. This course is aimed at parents with children in Y4 to Y7 and will look at what’s out there in terms of apps, games and platforms (and this will vary as the months progress), how to help your child(ren) understand social media and the internet and security. It’s a really tough balance when we love our phones and social media and some of the course will explain the bits that I’ve got wrong, what I’m seeing from the kids I volunteer with and the feedback I’ve had from schools.
