Last week saw the first of the St Albans Businesses WooHoo achievement evenings – an event for local businesses to come together and be proud of what they’ve achieved and to raise some much needed funds for the wonderful charity HomeStart
Unlike any other ‘awards’ night, the categories were flexible, nominations were from other local businesses and it was an occasion for us all to give each other (and ourselves) a pat on the back for getting where we’ve got to this year. They’re not about turnover, number of staff employed or net gains in whatever; we celebrated people who do business with other people and the fabulous community that St Albans Businesses is.
I had agreed to present an award – not ever thinking we might win one. How wrong I was.
I am now the very proud owner of a golden pineapple which has pride of place on my desk – alongside my vintage Garfield phone which was a gift from my family when I moved into the Shoffice.
You know I make no secret that I’m running DigitalJen, being a mum and running a Guide unit in my ‘free’ time. I thrive on variety and being part of the community – working with lots of different people to make a difference.
I was overwhelmed by the kind words of those who nominated me – so thank you all.
In true acceptance speech style, I couldn’t do this without my wonderful DigitalNat – and I wouldn’t have done any of this without being part of the St Albans Businesses community. Just as wonderful as receiving our pineapple was watching those we work with receiving theirs;
Danielle from The Cobbled Kitchen
Ruth from Mindful Pathway
Monir (who also took the photos) from Little Big Ego and Monir Ali Photo
Gail from MacPro
Eileen from Beautiful Bea
Ele Stevens from The Barefoot Accountant
Juliet from Box Local Food
Aarti from AP Brand Communications
and lots of other wonderful people who have helped us out with their time, knowledge, expertise and general niceness.
Massive thanks have to go to Sue Wybrow and her team at St Albans Businesses for organising the whole event – here’s to the WooHoo Achievement Evening 2018!
